Our Namesake
is a term used in several native American languages to describe the concept of "free flowing spirit", or "free flowing water." As the legend goes, a young native American leader stood at a fork in a river after her father, the Chief of her tribe, had passed due to infirmity during the forced migration of her people along the Trail of Tears. There, she gave a call to action to her surviving tribe, urging them to follow her along the River (the modern-day Tequa Creek in Kansas), which led north to freedom instead of the Reservation. Her people listened, and together they courageously navigated their way to freedom on the banks of Canada's Vancouver Island, where their descendants still live today. Ever since, the name connotes a hopeful leader with deep understanding, compassion, courage and a strong will to help others live better. is also said to mean "hope" in French.
