Pre-operative Surgical Clearance Examination

  • Full discussion of the surgical procedure you are having in context with your past medical history, active health concerns and a focus to optimize your overall health prior to the procedure, and minimize your risk before, during and after our surgery. This includes a discussion of your current activity level, what medications to stop or avoid in the days leading up to surgery, what medications to take including the day of your surgery, things to do and avoid during your peri-operative period to increase the odds of the best surgical outcome.
  • Vital signs.
  • Complete physical exam.x-ray,
  • EKG when indicated.
  • Laboratory analysis when indicated.
  • Orders and interpretation of any medical imaging indicated, most commonly this is a chest x-ray which is ordered and done at an imaging center of your choice outside the office, however we obtain he result and make sure we report that to your surgeon with our final report about surgical risk reduction.
  • Referral to any medical or surgical specialists needed before clearance can be safely given (only when indicated based on your condition).
  • Comprehensive report back to your surgeon advising your risk for surgery in context of the risk of the procedure they plan and internal medicine considerations to lower your risk and optimize surgical outcomes.
